You arrived on time for your session, and just finished your hair and make-up done. As you are putting on your first outfit you feel your heart catch in your throat and you take a deep breath. You may be wondering at this moment if you made the right decision.
It happens to everyone. We all have doubts, especially when we invest in ourselves and our self-care. I am going to give you some amazing tips on how to keep your confidence in your boudoir session!
Of course, I want to be the right photographer for you. I want to provide you with the best experience possible. However, you need to resonate with your photographer, and if I am not that photographer, then the best gift I can give you is to step aside.
Research photographers in your area (or not in your area) and follow them on social media. Get a feel for their style of work and if that resonates with you. Also, read their “about me” page and make sure your vibrations are on the same level.
There are a lot of boudoir photographers; some of which I follow and they have been amazing mentors! I know the importance of this first step. I found my boudoir photographer for myself, and she is four hours away. So, it is always possible to travel for you to have the best experience for you!
I say this all the time, mainly because it is just a detail that you can google, but it is a BIG fact that I feel a lot of women don’t know. Did you know: 80% of women are in the wrong size bra. I learned this when I got Bra Fit Certified at JCPenney’s. I was 16 and it was my first job.
That fact stuck with me all these years! I know right now I am wearing the wrong size bra. So, the second step I encourage you to do is to go to a lingerie store and have a fitting. It’s the start of coming out of our comfort zones because I know going for one of these appointments is uncomfortable.
Generally, being in the right size bra is important for comfort with everyday routines, however for your boudoir session it is a major confidence boost. It is one less thing to worry about when the outfits fit properly. Your girls will stay where they are supposed to, and you won’t be adjusting for misfitting straps.
For all of my clients it is recommended to bring 3-4 outfits, and I am even fine if they want to bring more! I always encourage you to bring at least one outfit that is outside of their comfort zone, because you just never know. It is better to bring something and we didn’t use it rather than not bring it and wish you had.
When planning your outfits make sure you have enough time, especially if you are ordering online, to try them on. If they don’t fit, you have time to exchange or return them. I encourage you to wear them around the house. This will give you a chance to see how to put them on, but finally, you’re not wearing them for the first time in the studio.
Planning your outfits can be one of the most important steps. I want you to feel your best when you come in and not have to worry about anything.
I use Pinterest all the time for personal growth as well as photography inspiration. So, it is no surprise that I recommended starting one for your boudoir session. That is what Pinterest is for anyway, right!?!
The goal I want you to achieve for your board is to find what you find sexy. Anything and everything that inspires your feminine side and sexy self. Include poses and must haves that you want during your session. I will ask you to share your board beforehand and we can absolutely plan for your ideas too.
Your session is about you and only you. I am simply there to capture the moment. Therefore, I also want you to include hair and make-up inspirations. You know what looks best on you! My make-up artist literally looks at your inspiration to give you the exact look you want.

Have I mentioned your boudoir session is about you?? Music means so much to me and I love to play it during the session. I have a soundbar ready to go in the studio to blast it for us.
I have a playlist ready if you didn’t have the time to do this, but I want you to make a playlist of all the music you love. This can be inspiring music or just music that you enjoy listening to. It will play the entire time we are in session and will fill any space that we have left open.
