Heyyyy!
I woke up this morning and stepped on my scale, like I do the same time every week. I am on a weight loss journey (I know, aren’t we all) but I actually am in a weight loss program. When I looked down at the scale sadly, I did not lose any weight, however I also did not gain any either!
Usually when this happens, I will do my measurements and find that I lost inches. Unfortunately, that is not true this week. This week I GAINED 2 inches in my chest, 4 inches in my stomach and 3 inches in my hips and I said “WTF” loudly!
Even though I was disappointed I sat down and thought of my last week. I didn’t “cheat” too much! I didn’t really cheat at all!!! So, what in the actual F happened??
My period.
My Monthly Cycle
I am two, if not one, day away from starting my period. It is so crazy to think how our bodies as women change so much in the matter of a week due to our cycle. Yet it is a beautiful thing!
My period being this amazing thing that happens to me every month is something that I am learning more about. It is a phenomenon that we as women have forgotten how powerful it actually can be and we need to remember. Our bodies should be celebrated!!!! We have something called “womb power” that I am learning about, and it is a having this deep connection with our monthly cycles.
Mother Nature
We have forgotten as women that we are rooted as one with the earth. Consider the changes of the seasons and how the earth ebbs and flows with the weather. You can even think of the lunar phases and how the moon waxes and wanes. Finally, I want you to bring this back into relation with your menstrual cycle. We go through phases just like Mother Nature does and we must tap back into that!We deserve to!
Our Monthly Cycle and the Seasons
I have been reading so much on the seasons of my menstrual cycle. I want to take my power back! I am learning that every month we as women go through each season every single month during our menstrual cycle. I encourage you to some research too because it can become so empowering. When we understand our bodies, it makes our premenstrual symptoms not as severe.
Winter – Your Period Season
Think about how you feel in the wintertime. Your energy may be up at some of the time but ultimately you stay in the house more and have less of a desire to do things. Now think about when you are on your period. Do you want to do anything the first few days of your period?
So apparently, I am going into my winter. This is when your energy is at its lowest as your body is preparing to break down and shed the lining of your uterus. Since learning more about my womb power even now a day away from starting my period I am writing this blog to you! Yeah I have a little headache, but my symptoms this month are not nearly what they use to be.
Spring – Your Follicular Season
Spring is a time of new birth. This is when the leaves are returning, birds are chirping, and flowers are blooming. We even start seeing baby animals in the wild more often! In spring we start to feel the upsurge of energy as we want to emerge from our houses more during this time.
Our bodies after our period feel this same energy surge. During this season we feel like we can accomplish anything! We are setting goals and crushing them! This is when your ovary is developing a follicle that will release an egg, just like the growth of spring releases life through winter’s spell. It is always moving preparing for the next season.
Summer – Your Ovulation Season
Summer (to some people) is the most attractive season, and it is when everyone is their most adventurous. We feel the full force of Mother Nature’s warmth and we want to bask in it! We have been waiting for this season all spring and we are ready to get out there and do our thing! (if you know what I mean )
During our ovulation season we feel just as attractive as we feel about summer! We are confident and ready to enjoy all aspects of life, as well as the aspects of creating life. Ovulation is when we are at our peak energy. I know for me I try to plan as much as I can around my ovulation window (I am just more productive during that week, it’s a proven fact for me).
Autumn – Your Luteal Season
Everyone knows when the season is about to turn to Autumn. Some are dreading it while others celebrate it. I am here to try to tell you we should be celebrating it. This is the season where the earth is preparing to go into winter. The axis shifts, days are shorter, and all signs of life are slowing down.
If you are not pregnant, you will enter your Autumn season. This is where your body is preparing to shed the egg it created as well as the uterus lining. At this time our energy usually winds down and will slow us down just as life does when the earth transitions into Autumn.
Celebrating Your Cycle
When we were little girls and we got our period for the first time, we were sat down and informed about the way of life. My sister is 3 years older than me, so I got the discussion pretty early in life with her, even though I didn’t understand it. I just thought “oh we bleed once a month, okay!” “This is what I do with a pad, okay!” “My friends don’t know what a period is, but okay!”
I got my period in between fourth and fifth grade. I was really young to understand all of it and growing up not understanding it can almost make you feel some shame towards it.
Furthermore, no one really talked about it. If we needed a feminine product we would always whisper about it. To be honest, now that I am 32 I don’t know what the big deal is. all have bodies, we all go through the same processes!
However, we have been taught to believe that our periods should be hidden, and we should be silent about it.
I am going to tell you and I will shout it from the mountain tops: We should never be ashamed of our bodies and we should never apologize for what it can do. Our periods are not gross and they are not nasty. They are a powerful source of energy and life. However, a lot of us are missing out on our womb power.
We need to celebrate it!
We need to take our power back!

Melissa
